There are many reasons why people may find themselves over their ideal weight including stress eating, food addictions, and low energy. Acupuncture may nelp relieve thiese conditions nder certain circumstances. Dietary review and counseling are included with our treatments. More details on these specific situations follow.
Stress eating is a common occurrence. Eating induces chemical changes in the brain that are pleasurable, making us feel better. Excessive stress eating without additional activity will lead to excessive weight gain. Acupuncture is a wonderful way to relieve stress. Also, since stress causes so many different symptoms, additional health benefits will also be attained with regular treatments. Your acupuncturist should work with you to find a healthier way to deal with stress.
Food addictions are more common than you might think. Because of the prevalence of sugars and other processed carbohydrates in the typical US diet, the brain can react to foods as it would to other kinds of addictions. Certain types of foods provide an immediate feedback to the brain, and will result in a low a few hours later. Our diets in the US are so unnatural that we can have actual addictive food cravings such as burgers or deep fried chicken. So if you try to change your diet in a drastic way, you may be hindered by unidentified food addictions. For more specifics on addictions, see our page on acupuncture and addictions.
Low energy may cause a person to constantly eat in an attempt to stay alert. Acupuncture and herbal medicine can be very effective in helping a person to regain their lost zest. Clients usually feel relaxed, yet energized after treatment, and dietary analysis may be necessary to determine if perhaps caffeine or vitamin/mineral deficiencies may be involved.
Call to set up an appointment and we'll work out a personalized program of acupuncture, herbal medicine, and nutritional / dietary counseling for you.
